Park City welcomed crowds of LGBTQ+ people members and allies to the slopes for the 15th annual Elevation Utah gay ski week.

Sean Udell, a member of the Summit Pride Foundation, formerly the Park Capital LGBTQ+ Taskforce, said partnerships with Park City Mountain and Elevation Utah were crucial in continuing the tradition of queer winter sports programming after the previous organizer stepped down due to scheduling conflicts.

In lieu of Queerski’s annual celebration, the Summit Pride Foundation stepped in to design a space for community and connection that supplements Elevation Utah. Queerski had been essential to much of the homosexual ski week programming in previous years.

“While we all worked hard to locate a new track forward (and I thank those at the company who tried), the options left to us amounted to producing queer culture for straight consumption, which wouldn’t have been fun for anyone, not of the community spirit we had come to know and love,” Queerski founder Joe Urankar posted on the organization’s website. “I can pledge that my love for gathering people isn’t over.  Now more than ever, we need defended harbors in which to connect and play — spaces away from po

How To Get the Most Out of the Park City Annual Gay Ski Week

Organizers expect between 1,200 and 1,500 skiers and snowboarders from all over the country and beyond. To support local participation, Utah residents obtain special discounted pricing of 25 percent on passes.

Obviously, skiing and snowboarding are the main attraction and participants have two world-class mountains to choose from, Park City Mountain and Deer Valley Resort. Park City is the largest ski and snowboard resort in the country, with 41 lifts serving an astounding 340+ trails. Utah Gay Ski Week 2018 is our eighth annual Park City Gay Ski Week! For the past 15 years, Mammoth Same-sex attracted Ski Week has taken place in Mammoth Lakes, California and quickly grew to be the 3rd largest gay ski week in North America, now bringing more than 2000 people to the Steep Sierras each year. At a time when the many of the enormous gay party weekends possess declined drastically in numbers, attendance at Gay Ski Week has increased by 60 to 100% each year. In 2011, we were excited to combine the second Gay Ski Week to our roster - bringing the pleasurable of Gay Ski Week to Park City, Utah as well as continuing the fun in Mammoth Lakes.

Why did Mammoth Lgbtq+ Ski Week become so successful? Probably because it offers a great alternative to the gay party scene. Yes, we possess huge dance parties with the biggest DJs in the country, but this weekend is about more than just those parties. When you come to this event, you trial some of the foremost skiing and boarding in the world, at an amazing resort, surrounded by gay guys and girls who are coming together in a spirit of camaraderie and fun.
