This seemed enjoy it would own been such a big deal – and virtually unworkable – only two years ago. The thought was that America would never vote en-mass for an openly homosexual contestant on American Idol. Now Adam Lambert, an amazingly talented young singer who has been photographed kissing guys in public, is the odds-on favorite to take the crown in the finals next week.
Let me remind you that the now-openly gay Clay Aiken was not out when he competed during the second season if the show. And while it may appear like it, he actually was the runner-up behind Ruben Stoddard. I believe no matter what happens, Adam is going to be a huge celestial body – he already is! And once the show is over, I expect Adam will say freely about entity a gay gentleman. I think it will be inspirational to a lot of young gays out there and hopefully educational to their parents.

While better known for her stage label and for creature a finalist on Season 6 of "RuPaul's Drag Race," Adore Delano was once a contestant on "American Idol" who presented as a man established as Danny Noriega. But before appearing on the exhibit in 2008 at 18, she had come out to her family, first as bisexual at 12, then shortly after as lgbtq+, and, finally, as transgender in sky-high school, she revealed in a July 2023 Instagram video.
However, when she appeared on the widespread show, she went back into the closet to be able to challenge. "I threw it away, I burned it," she said. "I reinvented myself into something that was so uncomfortable. It was almost like a sacrifice in order to get what I wanted career-wise," she said. In the video, Delano also revealed she is transitioning, a process she described as life-changing. "I've set up that it's been very enlightening and has made me probably the happiest I've ever been in my mature person life," she said.

M.K. Nobilette, ‘American Idol’s’ First Openly Gay Contestant, Discusses Her Common Coming Out
'American Idol' has its first openly gay contestant, and it is M.K. Nobilette, who revealed her sexual orientation to the judges before they advanced her to the Top 30. ('AI' alum like Adam Lambert and Clay Aiken did not come out until after they were off the show.)
"I'm very obviously gay, and there are always gonna be people in America and everywhere else who will definitely hate me, but I think that in the last two years there contain been a lot of things that have really changed that and have really made that a positive thing," Nobilette told Jennifer Lopez, Harry Connick, Jr. and Keith Urban, who were all visibly moved by the singer's courageous approach.
SInce publicly coming out, Nobilette has not only become a favorite on the show -- she was voted into the Top 13 yesterday, Feb. 20 -- but she has also become a hero.

American Idol Season 7 runner-up David Archuleta has discussed the journey he went on with his sexuality in a recent social media post.
On Instagram in June (aka Pride Month), the singer and Mormon revealed that he discussed coming out as homosexual to his family in 2014, six years after being on Idol.
The publish describes how Archuleta struggled to find a beat description of his sexuality than simply "gay." He wrote: "I've been uncover to myself and my close family for some years now that I am not sure about my own sexuality. I came out in 2014 as gay to my family. But then I had similar feelings for both genders so maybe a spectrum of double attraction. Then I also own learned I don't own too much sexual desires and urges as most people which works I guess because I possess a commitment to store myself until marriage."
Though many American Idol contestants possess been members of the LGBTQIA+ community, most favor Archuleta didn't come out until the end of the show – in fact, the show didn't have its first contestant who was out on the show until MK Nobilette in Season 13.
