LGBTQ+ GAY WEDDINGS

As a London and Brighton gay wedding photographer, I absolutely devotion shooting LGBTQ+ gayweddings.

For me, it's enjoy feeling really at home like you belong. Like family. (Plus they are always loads of fun and filled with love).

Some people say there is no difference between photographing a gender non-conforming or straight wedding. But I consider there is. Some couples still discover it tricky booking hotel rooms for two guys or two girls, or trans guys or girls. Some folks can face a frosty look when trying on wedding dresses. There are still elements of the wedding industry that are way behind the times.

LGBTQ + Lgbtq+ weddings are amazing because couples execute exactly what they want for their big day. You don't have to follow convention. Undertake things your way. If that means having 6 bridesmaids dressed in wedding dresses or tuxedos that is pleasant . Some have optimal men, some possess best women. Some have best people. Some have queenly queens, some acquire ready together, some get ready separately. Some dance down the aisle to Abba. (yup Katy and I did that!!). and of course, let's not forget that the gay wedding time party is guaranteed to be epic!

Photographing LGBTQ+ couples as a straight, cis wedding photographer

As a straight, cisgender wedding photographer I am extremely grateful and proud that a number of Gay couples have trusted me with their weddings, engagements and love stories.

Showcasing these couples’ photos has earned me more LGBTQ+ wedding bookings for the upcoming year, which I’m pumped about.

Working with LGBTQ+ couples has been an unreal part of my business. I have been intentional about showcasing their images. I often get comments from people of all sexualities and genders, saying it’s refreshing to view a wedding photographer’s engagement to inclusivity. Not just in this realm, but other kinds of diversity, too.

In this article, I wanted to take a bit of a philosophical view about how I make couples who spot as LGBTQ+ feel protected, welcome and validated. I also want to move into a little of the backstory, philosophy and my personal journey.

Am I always unfaltering in my attempts? No, but I am always learning and getting better at asking thoughtful questions while respecting boundaries.

How did I begin shooting LGBTQ+ weddings & engagements?

Every couple I met and photographed so far was unique and so was their wedding. Renos and James’ wedding in Greece and Paros island in particular was definitely an event to remember for being one of those weddings that were overflowing with love and emotion. A real union of two people that chose to exchange vows of eternal love surrounded by their family and close friends in a beach ceremony on one of the most pretty islands of Greece.

Renos and James met on Facebook and it didn’t take them long to understand that they were the perfect match. However their adore story is better told by them so I will quote their words below:

"Our first three dates ended with at least one of us tripping on the way home, and gaining a scar as a reminder of the date. After 5 years of laughter, dancing, singing, screaming, drinking, cooking, caring, shouting, crying, kissing, eating and loving, Renos proposed at the Kruger National Park in South Africa. A messy, calm, logical Englishman and a tidy, excitable, heartfelt Greek began the final stages of our journey towards becoming a balanced married couple.

Renos organism Greek-Cypriot South African and James being English, we had a host o
