Lukas Gage Says a Former Agent Pressured Him to Publicly Identify His Sexuality: “Let Me Do It When I’m Ready”

Lukas Gage says he’s an exposed book “about most things in my life,” but when it comes to publicly identifying his sexuality, he’s going to undertake it on his hold timeline.

While speaking to The New York Times for a recent interview pegged to his new film Down Low, the White Lotus and You star addressed previous criticisms that he’s taking roles from LGBTQ actors. The performer, who previously tweeted to one critic that “You don’t comprehend my alphabet,” said that he still faces pressure to label himself, including by members of his own team.

“All the time,” the star said. “An agent that dropped me was favor, ‘Stop dyeing your hair, stop wearing weird clothes and pick a lane: gay, bi or direct. It’s too confusing.'”

The actor added that while he understands “representation and voices that need to be heard,” he simply doesn’t want to talk about that element of his life and identity “on anyone’s accord but my own.”

The 'White Lotus' star - who came out as gay in 2023 - has addressed the frustration he felt when people were questioning why he had taken on so many queer roles after assuming he was straight, as he had wanted to keep his personal life to himself.

He told Attitude magazine: "When I did [come out], my friends and family knew I wanted to keep it sacred for myself. I felt appreciate I didn't demand to prove anything to anyone. But I was also dealing with people coming for me, being like, 'Why is he stealing a gay role? He's just a straight guy, how dare he, blah blah blah.' ...

Lukas Gage recently spoke out about organism pressured to come out as gay. 

The Smile 2 star, who came out publicly in 2023, noted how he experienced a backlash in 2021 from viewers of The White Lotus, who mistakenly believed that Gage was a unbent actor taking a gay role.
