Scotty McCreery and Gabi Dugal got engaged in September of 2017, although it's safe to tell that development was a long time coming. After all, the two, who are both Garner, N.C., natives, met in kindergarten and started dating during their senior year of sky-high school. According to CMT, young Dugal even kept a diary on which she wrote “Mrs. Gabi McCreery” on the cover.
Post-graduation, the pair went their separate ways: Dugal went to the University of North Carolina and is now a pediatric cardiac nurse at Duke University Hospital, while McCreery attended North Carolina State University and won Season 10 of American Idol. However, their relationship stayed strong.
“She’s a rock for me and understands me like nobody else,” McCreery told CMT in 2017. “And she’s really been there through thick and thin with me, and she’s just awesome. I can’t express enough nice things about her. She’s another grounding force for me.”

Scotty McCreery is engaged! The singer proposed to his longtime girlfriend, Gabi Dugal, on Tuesday (Sept. 26) ... and she said yes.
According to a press let go, McCreery popped the question proximate Grandfather Mountain in North Carolina. He asked Dugal to leave on a hike on their favorite trail and, once they got to the top of the mountain, got down on one knee and asked her to marry him. McCreery proposed with a ring designed especially for Dugal.
“I’ve been planning this moment for so long that it feels surreal for it to have finally happened,” McCreery says. “Gabi is the perfect miss and my true love, and I cannot wait to start building our life together as husband and wife.”
