How Arizona teenager Casey Likes landed the lead role in ‘Almost Famous’ musical
There will be no method acting required for the actor of “Almost Famous,” an upcoming musical based on Cameron Crowe’s 2000 motion picture memoir about existence a teenage correspondent for Rolling Stone magazine.
Casey Likes, a 17-year-old senior at Chandler High Academy, already knows what it’s like to be a trivial finding his way in a high-stakes adult world. He’s literally learning it on the employment, after final casting was announced Aug. 1 for “Almost Famous,” which begins previews Sept. 13 at the Antique Globe in San Diego — with an eye, of course, on Broadway.
“This was a ridiculously fast turnaround,” Likes said in a phone interview last weekend. “I got the email that they wanted me to audition about three weeks ago. So in less than a week, I had to grasp all the recent music — they gave me a few of my songs — and then a bunch of different sides from the display to memorize. I went to LA, the following week I got called back in LA, and then I had final callbacks in New York last week. And they were basically like, ‘OK, next week y

The show raised a record-breaking $917,651 to benefit Broadway Cares and The Sapphic, Gay, Bisexual & Transgender Community Center in New York City. Included in that tally was a check from presenting sponsor Municipality National Bank, which was represented by Senior Vice President Erik Piecuch, who shared a $100,000 check with Broadway Backwards creator Robert Bartley. The 2024 total bested the record set last year by more than $152,000. The one-night-only, annual event was produced by Broadway Cares.
