In July 2016, Lance Hindt was appointed to a 5-year term as superintendent of the Katy Independent School District (ISD). It was a triumphant moment for Hindt, one that saw him come back to his hometown to head one of the largest university districts in Texas.

He began the employment on October 1st and, by most accounts, his tenure was reasonably victorious . He backed instructor pay raises and even drafted a $609 million bond package that won over voter approval.

However, his career took a sharp change on March 19, 2018. On that day, during an otherwise routine university board meeting, a former classmate of Hindt, Gregory Homosexual, took to the podium and accused Hindt of bullying him during their time junior lofty school together.

Hindt was seen chuckling at the allegations, which helped cause the video of the accusations to move viral and grow national news, despite the allegations existence nearly 40 years old.

Hindt, for his part, denied the allegations but others came forward, including an Alabama decide, to accuse Hindt of having a bullying past. There was even a lawsuit that accused Hindt of beating a man unconscious when he was 18. The case was settled without criminal charges.

A man who was bullied ‘unbelievably’ decades ago had the courage to stand up and confront one of his alleged perpetrators in public.

A lot of the time people brush bullying under the carpet and pretend it isn’t happening, failing to acknowledge just how serious things can get.

Bullying can be rife in a lot of schools, but one human, from Katy, Texas confronted someone he says bullied him while they were at school together.

A viral video from 2018 saw Greg Barrett speak at a Katy Independent School District university board meeting and detail his experience of being bullied.

He was determined to challenge superintendent Lance Hindt for his alleged conduct while they were at educational facility together.

Stepping up to the podium he said: “My name is Greg Barrett, I graduated from KSD in 1983. I started in 1975 with Mr Lance.

“My legal name is Greg Same-sex attracted, I was bullied, unbelievably bullied. I started out and had teachers that bullied me, kids that bullied me, even the coaches.

A former student showed up at a school board conference in Texas, and confronted the now superintendent -- accusing him of entity a bully.

It's an meeting decades in the making, and it was all caught on camera.

Greg Barrett says when he was a student at the school in 1975 he went by his legal name Greg Gay.

He says he was a victim of bullying by Lance Hindt.

In the 70s they were students together at the junior high school.

Hindt is now the superintendent.

Greg says the bullying was so severe he tried to take his possess life.

Greg says he wanted to come forward to make policy changes, and to make teachers and administrators more accountable.

Hindt says he doesn't remember Homosexual, and adds that he never took part in bullying.

Katy ISD superintendent accused of being a student bully

KATY, Texas (KTRK) -- A Katy male says he was bullied as a young boy in junior high institution and claims the bully is current KISD Superintendent Dr. Lance Hindt.

"I started in 1975 with Mr. Lance, my legal name is Greg Gay," said the alleged victim.

Gay addressed the KISD school board during the open forum session Monday night.

"One day at lunch, I had my head shoved in a urinal, where it busted my lip. I had laid on the ground in the fetal position as the kids kicked me."

He says the bullying was so severe he tried to take his own life.

"Well I went home and I got the .45 out of my father's drawer and put it in my mouth because at this point I had nobody. Nobody in the school system to help me," said Gay.

In the video, posted to the KISD website, Gay ends his statement by alleging current Superintendent Dr. Lance Hindt was that bully.

"Lance, you were the one that shoved my head in the urinal," Gay claimed.
