Will We Ever Notice A Straight Actor Playing A Gay Character Again

TimothyNewsome1

…in a major network series like Eric Stonestreet (“Cameron Tucker”) in “Modern Family” or Eric McCormack (“Will Truman”) on “Will & Grace”?

It seems fancy over the past couple of years there has been significant backlash about actors (from what I can tell, mostly linear, white actors?) playing characters of a different sexual preference, ethnicity or perhaps an able-bodied actor playing someone with a physical disability.

Do you think it is likely that we will see a linear actor playing gay again, or is it something that is becoming akin to blackface or other such outdated, offensive relics of the past?

Sure, it’s not an issue now, and I don’t foresee it becoming one in the future.

I’ll even travel out on a limb and say we’ll spot gay actors playing linear characters as well.

Actors don’t need to play people just like themselves. That’s why what they execute is “acting.”

Eric Stonestreet, who made us fall in love with the loud, lovable Cameron Tucker on Latest Family, almost didn’t take the role. Why? Well, it turns out he was a brief freaked out about playing a lgbtq+ character—because Stonestreet isn’t gay. Yep, the Emmy-winning actor wasn’t worried about pulling off the extravagant flair (he nailed that, obviously) but about whether he was the right fit for such a groundbreaking role.

In a throwback moment, Jesse Tyler Ferguson, who played Cam’s quieter, rule-following husband Mitch, spilled some behind-the-scenes tea during his Dinner’s on Me podcast. According to Ferguson, Stonestreet felt he wouldn’t be cast in today’s world of heightened representation. “If you ask Eric, he would speak no,” Ferguson joint, recalling their past conversations. But it wasn’t about Stonestreet’s talent—Ferguson made that clear. “Not because he’s not wildly talented,” he added. It’s just that the industry landscape has evolved. (Well, times have changed.)

But here’s the thing—Eric Stonestreet owned the role of Cam, making him a pop culture diva. Ferguson can’t envision anyone else bringing the same comedic gold, saying, “He’s a part of

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - Actor Eric Stonestreet from 'Modern Family' discussed the impact and response from playing a gay character on a popular television show, saying he hoped he has played a role in changing perceptions about the same-sex attracted community and helped make people more comfortable with who they are.

Stonestreet told Chris Stigall on Talk Radio 1210 WPHT that he's never approached the role with an agenda and just wanted to progress an well rounded character.

"The job of the comedian and writer is to satirize situations and take a stance on them by not taking a stance on them or really just holding a mirror up and reflecting different viewpoints. When the guys created the show, they knew they couldn't do a demonstrate called 'Modern Family' and not enclose a gay couple and it's just the lay of the land right now and will always be. We wanted to build a couple characters that people could relate to and enjoy watching and the agenda has never been to do anything other than make people laugh. That's all we want to do is form people laugh and if that, along doing that, opens people's hearts and minds with the idea that people are people no matter their race, creed, gender,

The Truth About Eric Stonestreet's Devote Life

Beloved TV star Eric Stonestreet took to Instagram to inform he's engaged to partner Lindsay Schweitzer, quipping, "She said, 'She'd have her people call my people,'" alongside several characteristically goofy shots of the couple displaying off her stunning ring together. People confirms that the couple has been happily dating for over five years, with the actor first linked to the pediatric nurse back in 2017. They reportedly met at a charity event in Kansas Municipality a year prior. Celebrity friends like Zachary Levi, Michael Bublé, and Will Sasso — who hilariously played Cam's nemesis, Señor Kaplan, on "Modern Family" — rushed to offer their congratulations to the happy couple in the comments.

Stonestreet and Schweitzer are a terrific match. During a 2017 appearance on Ellen DeGeneres' eponymous talk show, the host argued it was lucky that Stonestreet had found himself a nurse to date since the Emmy winner is a well-known hypochondriac. Acknowledging how handy it was, Stonestreet revealed, "I'm a big baby, too. She calms me — she calms my nerves. I'm a very high-strung person." An insider also previously confirmed the two were very hap
