Former Bellator heavyweight champion Alexander Volkov (24-4) takes on Tony Johnson (8-2) at Bellator 136 on Friday at the Bren Events Center in Irvine, Calif. He expects an thrilling fight.

“Tony Johnson is a good wrestler, so I expect him to attempt to execute his wrestling skills,” Volkov recently told MMAWeekly.com. “My goal for this fight is to dictate the pace of the fight and dictate where the fight goes and to beat him everywhere.”

Johnson’s wrestling and size are the only things Volkov thinks his opponent has that could offer him trouble in the fight.

“He’s a big, strong wrestler. That’s the only threat that he could possibly have for me in this fight. I’m in great shape. I had a very nice training camp,” he said. “It’s going to be a good, exciting brawl and I look forward to it.”

The bout with Johnson will be Volkov’s third fight in five months. The 26-year-old likes to stay active.

“I appreciate to fight often. I never back down from an opponent or taking a fight. I enjoy to stay active because it keeps me in shape physically and mentally and gives me a chance to make money,” he said.

UFC Fight Night: Volkov vs. Rozenstruik Results

Alexander Volkov and Jairzinho Rozenstruik were in the main event slot at the UFC Apex for the UFC Vegas 56 card on Saturday night. The two heavyweights were looking to shift their fortunes around after they both suffered a defeat in their last outing. Undefeated Russian prospect Movsar Evloev took on his biggest challenge to date when he faced off against Dan Ige in the co-main event.

Two former heavyweight champions headlined UFC Defend Night 127 on Saturday at the O2 Arena in London, England. Former Bellator titleholder Alexander Volkov remained unbeaten inside the octagon by finishing former UFC champion Fabricio Werdum in the fourth round.

Werdum rushed across the cage at the sound of the opening bell and adv changed levels to put Volkov on his back. He delivered right hands but did minute damage. Volkov scrambled to his feet and unleashed a flurry of punches but was taken down by Werdum a second moment late in the first frame.

Werdum stuck to his game plan of trying to get the fight to the ground in the second round. The takedowns weren't coming as easy in the second frame. Volkov shook off the first two attempts but was taken down midway through the orbicular. Werdum softened Volkov up with punches and elbows opening up a trim along the Russian's hairline.

The momentum of the bout began to change in the third rotund. Volkov landed a combination that opened up a laceration under Werdum's right eye. Werdum continued to look for takedowns but was taking damage in his attempts.
